Should RAF MR search for missing casualties who are thought to be dead?

Might as well start with a controversial question, eh ?

From time to time the teams are faced with the quandary of whether to search for someone who is thought to be dead when, in fact, RAF MRTs are a declared SAR force who are there to save life. From the humanitarian perspective, it is a kindly and generous thing to do and there can undoubtedly be good training in search techniques, but on the other hand, there are many long-term missing persons and it can be argued that unless a halt is called at some point, the teams could spend most of their time looking for missing persons who just could be there, but actually, could be anywhere.. In the end, it is a matter of judgement.
