Snowdon - 29 May 2003

A Brief Account of the Snowdon Anniversary Event on Thursday, 29 May.

I set off from Stafford early doors and headed for the mountains of Snowdonia. Got to Pen y Pass and, before anything else, fetched a brew while I sorted my stuff out and then generally hung around to see who would arrive. While hanging about, Pete Hughes (Valley 63-64) introduced himself and after a quick chat said that he would set off and see me at the top. After a while, I set off up the Miners' which was very busy because of the brilliant weather. When I got to the summit cairn I had a quick look around and lo and behold, a troop I recognised! - Mike Gibson (Valley 86-87 + 90-94 and Kinloss 99-01). Felt a bit guilty as I considered how to blag a brew off the old pensioner, so to ease my conscience I offered to get the tea instead. Whilst we chatted Pete arrived, having come up the PYG track. The views were fine with occasional patchy cloud and as we chatted a troop by the name of Roy Peel introduced himself. He was at Valley from 51-53. As I was having a last look around, one of the trains arrived at the summit station and I recognised the driver as Mike Roberts from Valley and St Athan Teams. All in all, a modest turnout that was made memorable by good company and fine weather.

Regards

Ed Roberts.
